FAQ

Q: When did you come up with UCHEW?

A: Back in 2007, I was starting to come up with U2 parodies for fun as a way to deal with the trauma of my little brother's accident where he was left a quadriplegic by a drunk driver. After sharing some on the U2 official site, many suggested that I put them in a book. Many years later, I have enough material for TWO books.

Q: Why are you sharing your parodies on your website for free while still putting out books?

A: Ideally, I want to share these parodies with as many people as possible. The books are great collection pieces, professionally graphic designed 'coffee table' books with many extra features, Easter Eggs, jokes not available elsewhere. They're a lot of fun and I humbly wish they are found to be worthy entries in any U2 fan's collection. Besides, not everyone has money to spare these days. The book is just a more premium, graphically heavy experience.

Q: What would U2 think of this parody project?

A: U2 are known to have a great sense of humour, even creating a parody band of their own with the Dalton Brothers. I believe that they would enjoy this project and see the affection and appreciation for their music, art, humanity, aesthetic and philanthropy.

Q: Is it *every* U2 song that you've parodied?

A: I believe so. I took painstaking effort to chase down every unreleased song, demo or alternate version, every cover of every single or album or official release.

Q: Why didn't you parody the video releases?

A: Maybe in the future I'll include them in a section. I didn't include the books either.

Q: How can I get a copy of the UCHEW anthology book?

A: SUNDAE FUDGY SUNDAE: THE UCHEW ANTHOLOGY will be released in Early Fall. But people can get a FREE preview edition copy early (to be released this summer) by either becoming a UCHEW ambassador or by getting UCHEW COLLECTIBLE NFTs (simply possess $20 worth of these NFTs in your digital wallet by the qualifying date).

Q: When will the 2nd book be out?

A: BORN TO BE MILD: THE LIVE COVERS will be out in Early 2023. It will feature many live U2 covers of classic songs by other artists, including those they played merely as 'snippets'. It will be a companion piece to the UCHEW anthology. This book, however, will only be available initially as an exclusive to UCHEW NFT supporters.

Q: Is there a DISCORD community?

A: Yes, you can find the link in the Social Media section.

Q: What other projects are you working on?

A: I'm currently writing a sci-fi trilogy that I've had in mind for 3 decades. Follow your dreams, folks. It's never too late to realize your ambitions. Also, I'm working on a biography of my brother, who's been featured on Dragon's Den and news articles all over the world and who's touching story of perseverance as a quadriplegic and finding hope, joy and purpose as an activist, world traveller, entrepreneur and a medical rehabilitation technology ambassador is one that would inspire many.

Q: What's this about a UCHEW 'tribute album'?

A: In Phase 3 of my roadmap, I plan on recruiting a dozen or so U2 tribute acts around the world to record parodies for a donation-only digital album with proceeds going to a Ukrainian refugee fund. I hope to secure a song from each tribute act in exchange for given them a worldwide platform to promote themselves and win new fans while supporting an important cause.

Q: Do you plan to have merch?

A: With sufficient interest, I'm open to creating t-shirts, totes, mugs, mementos, etc. They will all be designed in-house as I'm a graphic designer.

Q: Are you worried about copyright?

A: I take matter this very seriously. Parody is protected under fair use and I believe my parodies respect the original work and differentiates as an obvious piece of satire, using images in the public space for context. I've no desire to express my remixed images as anything but a separate work that does not affect or diminish the original work in any way, shape or form. It is simply parody. Essentially what an idol of mine, Weird Al Yankovic, has done for years.

Q: You mention community contests in your roadmap…

A: I plan on U2 quizzes, fan votes on different UCHEW versions, contests for prizes, merch giveaways, and free exclusive UCHEW NFT drops over time.

Q: Your social media presence isn't that big yet

A: I'm just getting started. Literally. Word is slowly but surely getting out. Sadly, however, I have no budget for promotion. This is simply a DYI indie project. I'm hoping the sheer awesomeness of this humble endeavour will draw people in. Or not. This is simply a labour of love, a dorky, geeky, nerdy vanity project I want to share with the world. If I can pay off the mortgage with it, that's cool, but foremost I just want to make people smile and laugh, and thrill a whole lotta fellow U2 fans.

Q: Do you plan on tackling any other band's entire discography?

A: No. This was a huge undertaking. It was a lot of work. I'm also a frustrated perfectionist. The first book alone had 12 different redesigns. So for the sake of my own sanity, U2 will remain my lone full discography parody accomplishment. But I will happily tackle other parodies on a song by song basis. However, I have created 2 albums worth of Beatles parodies some years back so maybe that will get put out as a book but that's it. There won't be a full Beatles discography parody. Unless Paul McCartney personally asks for it. Then maybe. But I'd rather Let It Be.
